I picked up a huge slab of walnut locally and although a coffee table was the obvious choice for it I wanted to do something unique to really show off the beautiful timber. With this is mind I chose a Nordic flower design to carve on the top which will get some coloured tinting to make the design pop. The slab being freshly cut was bowed, cupped and twisted so took hours of hand planing to get to a stage where it could be carved, even then every element had to be carved individually to suit the particular depth of the wood, but it all turned out nicely. Can't wait to get some colour and oil on it to make the design pop!
