Following my last blog post on helping an American client create a sci-fi themed room this time I will focus on working with another client and how different the process was.
On the previous project the customer had a very specific vision right down to the position of each part, the exact sizes and even the engraved details on each button. This time around the customer gave me a rough idea on sizes, a few required elements and his general theme was a black & blue scheme but apart from that he pretty much gave me free reign with the design.
Each way of working has it's challenges, with this project it was pulling design elements from previous projects and panels without making it repetitive, this also meant designing new elements and screens to add into the mix. In total there were 3 wide panels that went underneath a large TV and another TV had a tall panel at each side with 2 wide panels above as in the photos and as the right hand one was next to the door I incorporated an airlock pull handle into this panel.
Another challenge was adding space for the customer to use his own iPads which was achieved by cutting a hole for the display to show at the front whilst leaving one side free for the iPad to slide into so it could be recharged. In the end the client liked this so much he incorporated 6 displays in total!.
Another difference with this project was that although we initially started out with a couple of off the shelf panels, once the customer realised I could make custom panels too he ordered one for next to the door and before you know it we had done most of his room! The most important thing was that the customer was happy with the end result so he can share this games room with his son for years to come
